I have been recommended a couple of online resources for students to engage with regarding marking their portfolios. There's the Hartismere High School site and the Excel spreadsheet available from the Shropshire LA site

World Cup files from Logotron
Logotron have entered into the spirit of this year's FIFA World Cup by publishing some data files for Viewpoint that can be downloaded free. There are some excellent .pdf files that contain many activities that might be attempted over the next half term to tie in with the competition. There are also some excellent Athletics and Fomula 1 materials on the same site. Have a look.
Google sketchup
Another alternative is Google Sketchup. Its an easy-to-learn 3D modeling program that enables you to explore the world in 3D. With just a few simple tools, you can create 3D models of houses, sheds, decks, home additions, woodworking projects – even space ships. And once you've built your models, you can place them in Google Earth, post them to the 3D Warehouse, or print hard copies.Google SketchUp is free for personal use. No registration is required.
3D environment – FREE
I've been recommended this new programme for developing pupils' programming skills. It's a free download that enables pupils to create 3D environments and control objects etc. without having to know too much about programming.Using Alice, a student can quickly create an animated movie in which characters move about and interact in an imagined 3D world. Along the way, the student learns how to write a simple computer program.
The results don't look like Lord of the Rings, but if you give Alice a try, you can experience the immense satisfaction of getting a computer to do what you want it to do—and of showing off your waddling penguins or attacking bugs to friends.
It can be found at http://alice.org/

NASUWT support
I know that some of you are trying to broaden the use of ICT within your schools and to engage students by using their mobile devices to learn. I wondered if you were aware of the position of the NASUWT on this. Kneejerk reaction or common sense policy for moderating classroom behaviour? Opinions welcomed…..http://www.nasuwt.org.uk/Templates/Internal.asp?NodeID=72493
